The Art of Collage

This week we will be doing a series on Photo Collages. These images were all created by my students at the community college where I teach. I continue to be charmed and inspired by the creativity of the people in my Emeritus classes!

The Garden Architect

The great architect Charles Eames said, "The details are not the details. They make the design."

Today we are featuring the work of Ray Bolton who designs like an architect because he is one! He has been a friend of our blog for some time now and has been generous enough to share his work on a couple of occasions.

In this post we have three collages. The first two are the same subject, but treated differently.

Below is an image of a sculpture in his garden. On the sides are some of the flowers around it treated with filters from Photoshop Elements.

Can you see the architect in these two images?!

In the next one he has added extra elements from outside the garden to add interest. You would stop and prowl around this image for a while, wouldn't you?

And finally another image from his garden with a butterfly added outside the frame to give the third dimension a whirl. The background is handmade as is the rectangle behind the framed picture.

It is a never-ending source of interest to me how people bring past professions and experiences into their creations in their imaging. A continuous flow of pictures as individual as the people creating them.

A special thank you to Ray Bolton for being a friend of our blog!

Ray,I like how you added the columns to the second version of "The Sentinel." They create a gateway that invites me to enter the garden. The remaining images show what I may find there. I feel invited to participate.
