Tuesday's Treasures

On Tuesdays we provide our Faculty an opportunity to feature the talented work of some of our students and friends. You may see a display of creative PhotoShop work, their beautiful photographs or an interesting story about an individual’s meaningful contribution to his or her community, country or the world. If you have memories, old or new, you would like to share, send them to me at mxw8110@yahoo.com.

Dance, Dance, Dance!

Dancers are fascinating to watch. They are especially interesting if they are your grandchildren! Both of my granddaughters have taken dance lessons since they were tiny. Watching them evolve over the years has been a great pleasure, to speak nothing of the Norman Rockwellian moments we have had at their recitals!

When we were working on removing damaged backgrounds in my Photoshop Restoration class Betty Malone showed me some selecting she had done that was just excellent. The little star you see in the image below is her granddaughter who was photographed in a dance studio where the background wasn’t great. Betty put her on a gradient background which removed the distraction of mundane things and accentuated this lovely child in her dance togs.

According to mezzo-mondo.com, "It was during the 1870's that Degas acquired his enduring reputation as a "painter of dancers". The reasons for his interest in dance were numerous and diverse but certainly stem from his life-long enthusiasm for music and the opera. Daniel Halévy, son of the writer Ludovic Halévy, maintained that "he finds them all delightful and excuses them for all they do and laughs at everything they say."

Martha Graham said, "Dancing is just discovery, discovery, discovery. It is the hidden language of the soul."
