Make It Happen Mondays

All over the USA, Seniors are using their years of experience and knowledge in a servant leadership capacity in their communities. They are volunteering their services when needed. On Mondays we are looking forward to sharing the stories of some of these "make it happen" senior volunteers.

DFW Ambassadors

Meet Sandy and Diane Lauder who are volunteering for DFW Ambassadors in this picture:

Sandy told me that, "Diane and I belong to the DFW Ambassador program and perhaps some of the reader's would be interested in volunteering there.

It's been in existence for 10 years (we've been in it for 5) and basically what you do is volunteer 4 hours a week and help people navigate the 5 terminals of the DFW International Airport.

Presently there are over 600 volunteers, but they are always looking for more as people come and go.

It's a lot of fun and quite rewarding.

On the DFW Ambassadors website, they say this about their organization:

"As one of the world's busiest airports, DFW served more than 59 million passengers in 2007. International Terminal D and the Skylink high-speed train, both of which opened in 2005, continue to position DFW as a global air transportation gateway.

As a DFW Airport Ambassador Volunteer, you'll have the chance to be a part of one of the world's busiest airports. Become an Airport Ambassador and lend a helping hand to travelers as they arrive at and depart from DFW. Welcome people from around the world, make new friends and be a vital part of North Texas' most dynamic transportation center."

To learn more about DFW Ambassadors you can go to their website at http://www.dfwairport.com/ambassadors/index.php.

"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in."
