Aging in Place Wednesday

Each Wednesday we will be sharing research and ideas on how seniors can safely and successfully live independent lives in the home of their choice.

Calling All Volunteers

Nancy Merz Nordstrom is our Faculty Advisor for the Lifelong Learning Department at our Computer School for Seniors. Nancy also shares her wonderful posts with us each Thursday here on our Blog.

Many people ask “What is Lifelong Learning?” Well, you could say it's really a belief in a philosophy that promotes one simple truth: Lifelong Learning is the process of maintaining an active and youthful mind, body and spirit as we age. Some examples include:

  • Exploring Lifelong Learning in the classroom
  • Discovering the world we live in through educational travel
  • Engaging in Lifelong Learning through community service
  • Realizing that a Lifelong Learning opportunity is available 24/7 with your computer via the Internet
We have discovered that many of our students and Blog readers are “engaging in Lifelong Learning through community service.”

Last Monday, we shared an example of that by telling the story of Sandy and Diane Lauder and the volunteer work they do with the DFW Ambassadors.

All over the USA, Seniors are using their years of experience and knowledge in a servant leadership capacity in their communities. They are volunteering their services when needed. On Mondays we are looking forward to sharing the stories of some of these "make it happen" senior volunteers.

So we are “Calling All Volunteers”. If you are doing some volunteer work or if you know of a friend or relative who is volunteering their time and services, please let us know so we can salute you on our Blog.

Please contact Mimi at and share your story with us so we can in turn share it with our readers.
